Spreading The Dirt
By Dick Cory Prosthetics & Orthotics
C AS IN CUCAMONGA
I have trouble distinguishing sounds since developing
hearing loss. S s sound like C s, P s like T s or B s, and Improving
Y s like I s. Phone calls are comical if not frustrating to the Quality
the one on the other end of the line as well as me. After of Life
about the second what or huh? my fellow
conversationalist speaks deliberately, spells out words
with prompts, and treats me as a simpleton.
For fun, I would like to reverse the roles. Instead of short " Lower & Upper Limb Prosthetics
word sounds like , I would offer polysyllabic " Cervical & Spinal Bracing
explanations of the letter. The word ceremonial would
become: C as in Cucamonga, E as in expectorant, M as in " Fracture Bracing
meticulous, O as in occidental, N as in numismatics, I as " Corrective Orthotics
in idiosyncrasies, A as in aphrodisiac, and L in " Diabetic Footwear
lexicography. The listener might respond with huh or " Mastectomy Products
would you repeat that. Can you catch the fun we might " Compression Garmets
have? Just imagine the humor we might share with Ray Tegerstrand
ubangarangs? This would open a whole new challenge 2445 Athens Avenue
for concentration and vocabulary enhancement. Redding

Decoding the subliminal thoughts behind the word
choices, although distracting from the original intent,
might be further rewarding. Yangtze might become Y as
You, A as Are, N, G as Goofy, T as Total, Z as Zombie, E
as Evolutionary or Extremist.
I can hardly wait to try this on my unsuspecting listener!
When they give me the monosyllabic clues to the letter, I
will say, Do you mean like C in Cucamonga &that will
teach em! Do you have a problem with any of this?
