If only people worldwide could
be kind to each other just for today, we
would have peace. On a personal level,
this may be hard to accomplish every day
as we can be bombarded with situations
that injure or insult us, and turning the
other cheek can seem impossible. The
challenge to be happy is no small task,
but each of us is coping with challeng-
es in some way, and if we realize that,
we can open our hearts to cut the next
person some slack as he or she struggles
with their problems. We are connected
as humans through the same struggles.
Realizing that may help us see the hu-
manity in each other and offer the gift of
understanding to each other. It sounds
simplistic, but putting aside our ego, just
for the moment, can turn a bad situation
around.
It is no coincidence that other phi-
losophies have used these principles,
and it isn’t easy to change a lifetime of
habits, but you can try just for today, just
for the next 15 minutes, to not anger
or get angry, to not worry, but be filled
with gratitude, to devote yourself to your
work (including working on yourself)
and to be kind to people, even if only
just for the moment.
