Simply Luxury celebrates £2m sales in first quarter

TRAVEL 2 has hailed its luxury start-up as a success in its first few months of operation. Managing director Andy Freeth said Simply Luxury has generated revenue of £2 million in its first 12 weeks of trading. Head of business development

Tracy Hirsz added that the average booking is coming in at £7,500. “Our team are overachieving on the targets we set and we have even had some bookings come in for as much as £45,000,” she said. The Middle East was flagged as a success, as was the US, while research and development for the 2013 brochure was well underway, Hirsz added. “We would look to feature more

US cities now, as well as high-end cruising. We are well represented already in Asia, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East but we will look to expand the space we devote to those areas and the hotels, increasing the

overall size of the brochure.” A series of agent lunches focusing on what the trade thinks so far, and future adaptations to the programme, will also be held in coming months. “Our agents are the cornerstone of all we do – there’s no point putting products out there without their say-so,” Hirsz said. Travel 2 generally has taken on 350 new agent accounts in the last year, added Gordon McCreadie, sales, marketing and commercial director. He said: “For Simply Luxury, there is definitely a ‘fly cheap, stay chic’ trend with not as much front-end flying as we would have thought – people are prepared to travel in economy and then spend the money on the quality of the accommodation instead.” Hirsz added that Simply Luxury was now considering a trip for top supportive agents in September, possibly to South Africa.

Cambodia debut for Park Hyatt

PARK HYATT is to open a hotel in Cambodia, marking Hyatt’s first move into the country. The deal will see Park Hyatt take

over management of Hotel De La Paix and rebrand the 107-room hotel as the Park Hyatt Siem Reap. The hotel will close on June 30 for

renovation work before reopening next year under the new guise. Hotel De La Paix Co Ltd is an

affiliate of KS Hotels and Resorts that already owns the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa; Hotel De La Paix properties in Thailand and Laos; three Nagas in Luang Prabang; and an interest in The Yamu Phuket.

The hotel – which is close to the ruins of Angkor Wat – plans to feature two restaurants, a bar and a bakery – as well as a spa and two pools.
