Welcome A

PETRA ROACH Vice-president, sales and marketing UK, Barbados Tourism Authority

s ever, the Barbados Gimme 5 & Fly mega fam is one of the highlights of the travel trade calendar. It is a chance for us to show off the very

best our wonderful island has to offer to nearly 100 agents, as well as introduce new projects and attractions to participants. Sport will be high on most people’s agenda

next year, with the London Olympics, Paralympics and Euro 2012. We are therefore making 2012 our “Year of Sport: from grass roots to world class”. Barbados has so much to offer fanatics as well as fair-weather fans, from horse riding and racing, to sailing, cricket, football, surfing or a spot of polo. We have some incredible initiatives planned, not least our recent agreements with Chelsea Football Club in the Premier League and Champion- ship side Derby Football Club. So expect to see Barbados as the number one holiday destination for the footballers next year! We will be hosting another Football Legends

Invitational Tournament in May 2012 following this year’s hugely successful two-day extravaganza. And for families, we will once again be running our Sports Camp over the school summer holidays, offering 9-17 year olds free football, cricket and netball sessions coached by inspiring sporting celebrities. If all that exercise is a little exhausting, we

still of course have our incredible picture perfect beaches, warm sparkling seas, knockout rum punches, top notch cuisine and legendary Bajan hospitality. I’d like to end with a big thank you to all the

agents that joined us on Gimme 5 & Fly 2011 and also to our generous sponsors British Airways and Almond Resorts – we expect Gimme 5 in 2012 to be even bigger and better! Now is the time to discover the art of fine

living, and it can all be found in Barbados. bajanclub.org
