A trip for all budgets

Use this feedback from agents on the trip to sell Barbados’s wide range of hotels

Kirsty Litchfield, Bath Travel, Petersfield What would you recommend for a family on a mid-range budget, self-catering? Amaryllis or Bougainvillea. Amaryllis is bigger with more facilities, and in a beautiful beach-front location while

Bougainvillea is a lot smaller and they’ve got a great restaurant with a famous chef. They do babysitting at Bougainvillea so parents could leave the kids there and go out for dinner.

And what about the budget end? I’d recommend Coconut Court. It is low budget but it’s family-run and the beach setting is amazing. It’s room-only but you get a free continental breakfast.

Almond is great for wedding parties

What did you think of the new Oceans Two? It’s an interesting new option – top end but not all-inclusive. It’s a good location. There are rocks around the beach too, so it feels quite private.

What would you sell for weddings? Any of the Almond properties; they seem to take weddings very seriously.

What’s been your trip highlight? Swimming with the turtles. Often on a trip like that they’re like, “oh, the turtles aren’t here today”, but we saw lots!

How has Barbados changed since you last came? It’s become a bit more commercialised – there are more Chefettes and KFCs and so on. But it means people can come here self-catering and still afford to go out and eat.

16 published in association with Barbados Tourism Authority The Crane offers privacy for couples looking to relax

Jodie Fletcher, ITC Classics Which hotel would you sell to a celeb wanting some privacy? I’d send them to Royal Westmoreland if they didn’t mind having staff in to cook for them, but if they want a hotel experience I would send them to The Crane. The paparazzi can’t get round

to take pictures because the sea’s too rough. I looked around Wayne Rooney’s villa at Royal Westmoreland – it’s £11,000 a night but it sleeps up to 14.

What would you sell to those looking to avoid kids? The House is adults-only. And on certain dates at Sandpiper and Coral Reef Club there are no kids.

What would you sell to golfers? Royal Westmoreland – it’s got its own course. If you stay there, you get four tee-times a day which are worth $250 each, so that’s $1,000-worth of golf per day. Or The Crane as it’s close to Barbados Golf Club.

What have been the highlights of the trip? Dancing in the aisle of the coach, with Cheryl driving. We really made it a party bus. I also loved getting involved in all the fun of carnival, dancing in the streets – you just don’t do that at home!

Sandpiper becomes adult-only January to March

Which Bajan would you most like to take home with you? One of the two men on stilts at the carnival – their smiles and bodies were amazing!
