Two agencies bust in a week
A SCOTTISH agency that was one of two Abta members to go out of business this week said it decided to close after its bank demanded the founder’s home as a guarantee. Caledonia Travel, based in Inverkeithing, Fife,
also traded as Tartan Travel and had been in business for 30 years and held a small business Atol for up to 500 passengers a year. Founder and owner Hank John said: “It’s very sad as I started the business from nothing 30 years ago and we had survived through so many events down the years. “Trading conditions have been tough and it’s been difficult to get any help from the banks. When the bank wanted a guarantee against the house we decided to take this decision. John added that no customers would be left

travel industry, it makes a great deal of sense for us to work with a media partner that is as committed as we are to the raising of standards in our sector,” he said. “As the oldest weekly travel trade title in the
world, TTGis recognised by the institute as the provider of the authoritative and professional coverage expected by our members.” Daniel Pearce, editor of TTG, said: “With its decision to partner with TTG, the ITT board has recognised both the strength of our brand, and our ability to support its goals. “The TTG team is fully committed to delivering on our partnership across our broad range of media channels – from print, to online, to events – over the next three years. Click-throughs delay Atol reform
REFORMS TO the Atol system are understood to have been delayed by up to two weeks, while the government deliberates over controversial issues such as click-through sales. The reforms were initially expected to be published before the end of October, but industry insiders said they had been pushed back because the government was still in consultation over certain issues. Luke Pollard, head of public affairs at Abta,
said: “There is a lot of technical, rather than just political, issues involved with some of the points. For example, click-throughs are the most techni- cally challenging element they need to get right. “This is also a controversial piece of legislation
if it’s looking to extend consumer protection and include click-throughs,” he added. A spokesperson from the Department for
Transport would not confirm a date but said that an announcement “would be coming shortly”.
