Biggs and Bryan recognised in new year’s honours list


Former Kuoni boss Sue Biggs received a CBE in the new year’s honours. Biggs ran Kuoni for 25 years until 2007 and spent two years as managing director of scheduled business at Thomas Cook. Colin Bryan, chief executive of UK theme park Drayton Manor Park, received an OBE.


Sandals to build a fourth property in Saint Lucia


Sandals is to open a fourth resort in Saint Lucia. Work on Sandals LeSource Saint Lucia is due to start in the spring on 19 acres of land next to the existing Sandals Grande Saint Lucian Resort. No opening date has been disclosed.


Novasol general manager Hoad to leave the business


Novasol UK general manager Malcolm Hoad is to leave the business. Hoad, who previously worked at James Villa Holidays and Cosmos Holidays, will be replaced by Leger Holidays commercial director Alex Stuart.


Getabed recruits Muir as UK and Ireland sales head


Getabed has appointed Angela Muir as head of sales for the UK and Ireland. Muir joins after almost 10 years at Travel Cube, and previously worked for Highlife Breaks and Going Places.

Industry ‘must share data to aid women in business’

A clarion call has been issued to the travel industry to better support female progression.


Businesses should help create benchmarks by sharing data highlighting gender diversity, development, retention and those returning from career breaks, according to Google’s head of ads marketing, Nishma Robb. Speaking at a Women in Business


lunch, hosted by Travel Weekly Group’s luxury title, Aspire, and Celebrity Cruises, Robb said: “We need the light to be shone on de- veloping women in business more. “We need to take action and my


rallying call consists of several factors. The first is data; we need to establish exactly where the travel industry is when it comes to gender diversity and pay divides. “I created a policy within Google


and I won’t allow anyone to speak at external events unless they are diverse events.” Robb was joined by Celebrity Cruises’ Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, who became the first female chief executive at parent company Royal

Bales Worldwide’s Molly Bales passes away, aged 89


Travel industry veteran Molly Bales has died, aged 89. She ran operator Bales


Worldwide after taking over from her husband George, who started the 65-year-old business known for tailor-made holidays to China, India, Egypt and Latin America. Bales Worldwide was sold to

decisions to buy travel reside with a woman in a household. We need to work together more. “I looked at the faces of all the


women when I got this job and they couldn’t have been happier for me and the same goes for the thousands of women working on our ships. It gives other women something to aspire to.” Carol Hay, the Caribbean

“energetic woman full of words of wisdom” who “loved to travel”. She continued to speak at industry events into her 80s, including at the ITT Odyssey Dinner at the House of Commons in 2010. Details of her funeral are yet to


be confirmed.
