DIGITAL MICROHMMETERS OFFER MEASUREMENT ACCURACY


Designed for low resistance measurement applications in the precision engineering and manufacturing sectors, the rugged DO4000 series of handheld digital microhmmeters from Cropico include advanced features to ensure high measurement accuracy. These include forward and reverse current measurement with auto averaging, true current zero, long scale length and a selectable measurement range from 40mΩ to 4kΩ with respective resolutions between 10μΩ and 1Ω. Additional features include temperature


compensation, with preset coefficients for copper and aluminium, plus user settable coefficients for other materials; and temperature measurement over the range -50 to +800˚C. Also provided is protection up to 415V rms at the measurement terminals, push button operation, and direct reading measured values are displayed on a four-digit LCD display. There are three models available in the series.

Now available from APC Smartwave are Adeunis RF’s new handheld Field Test Devices. These instruments, the company explains, provide an easy way to validate applications ahead of deployment including: sensor networks, asset tracking, smart buildings, metering, security and M2M. The lightweight Field Test Devices,


which can be used worldwide, are available in two formats: a pulse unit and a sensor unit. Both will provide a connection to any operated network using Sigfox and LoRaWAN V1.0. When connected, the device


transmits through the used network and the radio frames can be viewed on a web application, enabling users to check all operating information including GPS coordinates, temperature and battery status. It will also provide critical network


data covering: uplink, downlink and SF Packet Error Rates. Additional features include a large LCD display, a range of up to 15km, and it can operate in temperatures from -20˚C to +75˚C.

Keysight Technologies’ ultrafast-scanning 9500 atomic force microscope offers ease of use, scan rates up to 2sec/frame and comprehensive environmental control. Now, however, powerful new capabilities have been added, including quantitative mapping of nanomechanical properties as well as electrochemistry applications and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) techniques. These new capabilities are enabled by Keysight NanoNavigator, a software package with a workflow-based graphical user interface (GUI) that makes the system easy to operate for AFM users of all skill levels. The latest version of NanoNavigator enables Quick Sense, an imaging mode that permits quantitative mapping of nanomechanical properties on a wide range of samples. Quick Sense lets users easily set modulation amplitudes and frequencies, acquire individual force-distance curves and measure adhesion and stiffness. All of the data is collected while the 9500 AFM simultaneously images the sample’s topography, resulting in precise and accurate characterisation of local mechanical property variations at the nanoscale. The new version of NanoNavigator also provides control of potentials and cyclic voltammetry, and supports AFM-SECM, a powerful scanning probe technique suitable for investigating surface reactivity and studying processes at the solid/liquid, as well as the liquid/liquid interface.

The new Fluidicam RHEO viscometer from Formulaction, which is available in the UK from Fullbrook Systems, is said to represent a new standard of fully automated rheology measurement. This uses the well-defined microfluidic co-flow


principle for measuring viscosity, and is capable of running defined shear sweeps up to shear rates as high as 105


sec-1 with low


viscosity fluids 0.1cP up to 200,000cP. In addition, sample volumes are as small as <500µl – a benefit when measuring blood, proteins and other biofluids. This low viscosity window is especially challenging for conventional rheometers where low torque, turbulent flow, surface tension, etc. can all have an affect on the reading. The microfluidic chip dimensions in


the Fluidicam ensure extreme accuracy and repeatability of 1%; and this level of accuracy and repeatability is guaranteed on liquids with high shear rates up to 105


sec-1 .


Of additional benefit, the instrument provides access to shear rates and temperature sweeps in a single click without the need for calibration, geometries or sensors in the chip, and results in cost-effective and faster rheology measurement. Typical applications are in


pharmaceuticals (proteins, vaccines, eye-drops, etc.) petrochemicals, inkjet inks, food analysis, personal care and fine chemistry.
