Technical In-Water Recompression Joseph Dituri M.S.CDR, US Navy Saturation Diving Officer (ret)

So… why are you seeing what is clearly a technical paper in the middle of a sport- diving magazine? Well, the annual dive conference and exhibition ‘Beneath the Sea’ holds daily seminars on various aspects of diving. These seminars range from live-aboard liability insurance to the latest, hottest new gear – and a bunch of subjects in between. I try to catch as many of these as time permits and the subject of in-water recompression was one that I found particularly interesting at the 2016 conference. Since the oft-voiced motto of this fine magazine is “all things underwater”, I asked retired USN Commander Joe Dituri if DIVER could print his seminar paper as given. He is an old friend and colleague, and readily agreed. ‘In-water Recompression’ is a no-brainer for commercial and experienced tech divers, but could it ever have an application for the SCUBA diver? Read on….
