Reefing projects on tap for Galveston, Sabine CCA

TEXAS recently passed the $1 million mark in

funding nearshore reefs and that total is set to grow with a decision in November by the CCA Texas Board of Directors to fund two new artifi- cial offshore reefs, which will be located off Sabine and Galveston. CCA Texas will be funding $100,000 towards each of these reefs. The Galveston project has re - ceived necessary permitting from the U.S. Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the Sabine site is in the final stages of approval. Construction of these reefs will fulfill CCA Texas’ pledge to help create nearshore reef- ing out of every major port along the Texas coast.

The Galveston site is currently scheduled to have a reefing contract issued in spring of 2016. This project has the support of Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and, in addi- tion, a private individual has con-

tributed $100,000 to the project. The Sabine site is currently await- ing final approvals from the USACE, which should be in hand by the end of 2016.
