Travel Trade Executive Birmingham Airport


Birmingham Airport is the UK’s second largest Airport outside of London and the Midlands’ premier gateway. It handles some ten million people a year and is home to over 50 airlines flying to more than 140 destinations worldwide.


In the last 10 years, the Company has invested in the region of £300m in its facilities and is set to spend a further £100m in the next few years as it prepares to launch new destinations, handle larger aircraft and process more passengers.


With over 6000 people on site at any one time, it is a major contributor to the West Midlands’ economy and has a very exciting future ahead of it.


About the role:


This role is key to the Airport’s Aviation and Development strategy and overall brand objectives. Under the guidance of the Business Development Manager, you will maintain and grow relationships with travel agencies in the Birmingham city and region and develop and promote relationships in the outer catchment area. You will also promote Airlines and the Airport within the travel trade industry.


You must have flair for communicating positively and have excellent social skills to ensure your time is spent effectively. You’ll be part of a team that promotes and enhances Birmingham Airport’s excellent reputation and you will demonstrate positive behaviours which support our Brand Values.


You’ll work in the Aviation Development Team, work closely with the Marketing and PR team and other key stakeholders. You will be responsible for facilitating marketing campaigns with travel trade partners to drive traffic and increase revenue. You will be an Ambassador of Birmingham Airport promoting the Company’s positive image.


You will be required to create and update presentations using IT systems and deliver weekly tracking reports on progress and feedback. You will work to targets and will need to be flexible in your approach.


As the Airport is a 24/7 business, you will be required to take part in evening and weekend events as well as on occasion be required to undertake travel both within the UK and worldwide. You will oversee travel agent manager’s meetings and will also be required to host airport tours for the travel trade as well as represent the company at conferences and exhibitions.

We are now looking for a General Manager with a proven track record of people management. Applicants must have strong IT skills and come from a tour operating / travel agency background, with experience of constructing itineraries, costings, and selling tailor made tours. Additionally, overseas trekking and adventure travel experience is essential, with sound knowledge of at least two of the following regions: the Himalaya, Asia, Africa, South & North America and Europe.


For the successful candidate there will be the opportunity to travel overseas, a salary of up to £30,000 (dependent on experience) plus annual bonus, and the possibility of a company car.
