Story: Thomas Cook reveals new uniform design What a real shame. I worked in Cook’s for four years (as well as JMC/Thomas Cook Tour Operations) and saw two major uniform changes. I quite like the current one but the new uniform is so flat and dull! What part of that look is inspiring? The addition of a black jumper makes the poor man in the photo look like a schoolboy. Inbound visitors should not become cash cows

GROUP

Story: Home Office could raise visa fees to offset police cuts Why should visitors holidaying in the UK be used as a cash cow? This would be another tax by this government on people who bring a vast amount of income into our country. The sooner this lot [the government] go, the better for all in the industry.

Heathrow expansion would be a disaster

Story: No new runway for Heathrow if costs too high, says Walsh Heathrow Airport Holdings already has £12 billion debt, while the interest payments on it take up most of its gross margin. It would need a capital injection of maybe £5 billion, depending on the gearing demanded by the City to support further loans of another £15 billion or so. With its main customer refusing to pay extra charges to support the financing, it is a non-starter. If it goes ahead it will be an economic disaster, not a boost to our fortunes.

“There’s a big ‘but’ at the moment and that’s terrorism. It’s causing disruption and it’s out of our control.

I can’t see anything but more disruption”

LETTER OF THE

WEEK

Switching from Sharm costs so much

We have a holiday booked in Sharm starting January 2. With all the nonsense going on at the moment, we just don’t want to travel to the Middle East, although I do understand that travelling anywhere is a risk. We called Lowcostholidays to say we no longer want to go to Sharm and would like to change it for a holiday in Lanzarote. Lowcostholidays said they were prepared to change our plans but that this would cost an extra £582 on top of the £900 we have already paid. I couldn’t believe it! I’m not prepared to pay £1,500 for a week’s holiday. Sorry to those people looking forward to their holidays, but I really hope the authorities cancel our flight. I don’t want to sit on a plane for five hours wondering if there’s a bomb on it, or sit by the pool waiting for some madman to appear with a gun. EMCQ Travel Weekly would welcome a response from Lowcostholidays
