HARD DATA

You can only get to the Aggregate
Industries Glensanda Granite Super
Quarry by taking a 45 minute boat trip
from the sites special jetty, situated
about 25 minutes north of Oban,
on the West coast of Scotland.

It’s a journey that 180 staff from
Aggregate Industries (AI), specialist
earthworks contractor CA Blackwell and Finning engineers, amongst others takes on a regular basis.

These individuals ensure the quarry
produces upwards of seven million tonnes of the very highest quality granite, which is then carried by ships to locations in the UK and Europe.

For AI, being able to ship product from the site in vessels capable of handling up to 97,000 tonnes, has its clear advantages, but being in such a remote location on the Scottish peninsular, with no road access,
also presents its challenges. This is
particularly the case when it comes to the eight Cat 777G Off Highway Trucks and two Cat 992K wheel loaders, operated by Blackwell that have been acting as the
primary movers for the site for the last
2 years.
