right for the applications in which they work. It is for these reasons that Caterpillar has developed the new higher capacity Cat MH3037. “When you look at developing a product, you have to look at the most important performance feature of any machine and this is always the operator, as they are in control.
A highly skilled operator can also make a huge difference to the bottom line, typically delivering greater productivity, for less fuel, in a much safer way, often paying for themselves in efficiency gains, when directly compared to others.
That is why the industry as a whole needs to recognise the impact design can have on operator comfort, visibility and fatigue, not to mention the importance of safety, access and egress features.
FEATURES AT A GLANCE
• Cab to ground technology including safety guarding • Operating weight of 39,500kg – excluding work tool
• Powered by a Cat C7.1 ACERT™ engine that meets EU Stage IV emission standards • 15.85 metre reach • Advanced programmable electro-hydraulic controls • Debris resistant cooling system • Close proximity stick limiter • Class leading visibility
With the MH3037, the ergonomically designed ‘clean air’ cab to ground system and joystick controls, address some of these issues, especially as long shift patterns are typical in the industry. But what is really interesting from our initial feedback, is how cab to ground supports greater diversity in the industry. For example, older more experienced operatives, or those that find it difficult to climb into a cab, can now come into, or remain in the industry for longer. This helps to address the skills issues and difficulty in attracting talent.
Similarly, when talking to the industry at the design phase, we were made aware of the very different types of work the equipment should be designed for. This included industrial, scrap recycling, wood processing and ports and inland waterway applications. So this is why we developed the MH3037 with a full range of specific attachments, including orange-peel grapples, clamshells, log grapples and a magnet generator.
With the product due to be released into the UK market in 2016, we are anticipating interest across the industry, especially from businesses looking to increase capacity and make strategic investments for future growth.
