“By listening to our operators, following the manufacturers guidelines on maintenance regimes and insisting on using genuine parts, we have been able to perform preventative repair work and identify wear on key components.
“Through our relationship with Finning, I have also tailored our service support packages for each machine type, developing a strong relationship with both our local branch and the mobile engineers that support my onsite team.
“With the latest equipment, I will also now be monitoring the remote telemetry reports from the Finsight engineering team, working with them to identify the optimum time to perform key maintenance to eliminate downtime.
“Really it is all about detail and getting to know the machines through the operators. I have to say I am fortunate in the fact that our operators probably stay with us for a lot longer than the industry average. But I think that also comes down to how we involve them in the equipment management and fleet purchasing process, as if they feel safe and comfortable in a machine, they are much more likely to look after it.
“I do genuinely believe that this approach has delivered real tangible benefits to us as a business. Whether it be increased uptime, lower fuel costs and an overall lower maintenance bill, due to a preventative approach we have certainly profited from getting the parts and service right.
