The Best Tools for the Job Investing in their equipment was the money saver for PIA member and SGP certified print facility, Webcrafters Inc., of Madison, WI. To reduce their energy use, the facility chose to focus on their trim removal system. To stay balanced, their current system had to continuously run—no matter how busy or slow the day may be. Their solution was to install a new system that had variable-speed drives with controls. By investing in a new system, Webcrafters Inc., was able to save more than 1.2 million kWH from their electric bill.
Next, they looked at sustainable ways to cool their facility. Having a lot of equipment and employees in one place can make a print shop generate heat quickly, and cooling or removing that heat can be expensive. Prior to their investment, Webcrafters Inc., was using 100% outside air to cool and ventilate their facility. They decided to increase their cooling efficiency by installing makeup air units which resulted in saving more than 80,000 therms of natural gas annually.
