from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange in 1949 and entered Texas A&M, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and the Texas Aggie Band. In 1952, he married Jettie Schmidt of Port Arthur.
They were married until her death in 2009. Upon his graduation from A&M in 1953, he served
in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant. After his ser- vice, he became a county agent with the Texas A&M Extension Service, working in Titus, Henderson, and Raines Counties. In 1964 he joined Olin Mathieson Corporation, spending 25 years in the agricultural chemicals fi eld. He is survived by his son, Stan Thomas; a daugh-
ter, Patricia Thomas; and 2 granddaughters. Memorials may be made to the Fort Worth Sym-
phony Orchestra or to a charity of your choice. Don T. Jobes Jr., 86, died Aug. 15 in Houston. He was born in Rocksprings to Don Temple Jobes Sr.
and Frances Marie Goodwin. He graduated from Sul Ross University in 1953 and
received his master’s degree in agricultural educa- tion at Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1954. He did post-graduate work at Texas A & M University. He taught vocational agriculture at Cypress-Fair-
banks High School and joined the Texas Education Agency, supervising agriculture teachers. In 1956, he was named the executive secretary for the state association of Future Farmers of America. He also served as livestock superintendent for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo during this time. Jobes joined the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as assistant general manager on Jan. 1, 1967, where he served for 31 years. He retired to his J7 Ranch near East Bernard in
1998, where he raised registered Red Brangus cattle. He is survived by his wife Mary Helen Jobes;
daughter, Carrie Jobes Hitchcock; son, Casey Jobes; daughter, Julie Ray Dunn; son, Robert Lee Dunn Jr.; and numerous other relatives.
