We’re revving up for Northern Ball kick-off
Angela Day, chief executive of Affordable Car Hire, explains why the Northern Ball is such a great event
Q. The Northern Ball is the biggest travel trade party of the year. Tell us why you’re involved as a headline sponsor. A. Aside from being one of the biggest trade party events in the travel trade calendar, we believe it is really important to recognise our fantastic travel agents. The Northern Ball provides a perfect opportunity for us to underline our commitment to the trade.
Q. What are the big developments for you as a business at the moment? A. We have redesigned The Affordable Road to Success Training Academy (ARTS) and supporting webinars, and are currently redesigning our online bookable website ‘CARS’ to give agents a set of unique tools which will enable them to sell car hire more effectively. We have also expanded our global presence, which includes the launch of our sales operations in Australia and the UAE, with more to come.
Q. What are the big product focuses for Affordable Car Hire at present? A. We will continue to focus on the support we give to agents through our training webinars, bespoke courses and an industry-leading marketing and incentive programme. As it’s our 11th anniversary, we’re planning to step up our support for agents by providing more training, more incentive promotions and more sponsorship support with events such as the Northern Ball. We will also continue to refine and improve the design and functionality of our CARS website and are looking to extend our worldwide network of car rental providers, which currently stands at over 500 in
193 countries and more than 15,210 locations worldwide.
Q. What are you doing to help your travel agent partners? A. Car hire bookings through travel agents represent the major part of our business and have been at the core of our distribution strategy since we founded the company nearly 11 years ago. We are continually looking at ways to improve how we work with the trade to help retail staff sell car hire easily and effectively. We have a team of partnership managers throughout the UK who have the support of an excellent agency sales team.
Q. What tune will you be listening out for during the fantastic after-party? A. Cheerleader by OMI. Pom-poms will be at the ready!
Q. This year’s Northern Ball coincides with the Rugby World Cup and has a sporting theme. What are your and your team’s favourite sporting memories? A. The 2015 Ashes series against Australia has been fantastic!
Q. What fancy dress will you de donning for the big night? A. This year the team will be attending in full fancy dress, complete with pom-poms!
Q. What would be your message to a travel agent gearing up to attend the Northern Ball for the first time? A. Soak up the fun and vibrant atmosphere, and use the opportunity to meet and network with suppliers attending the event! Let your hair down and party the night away.
