Rexel Group and JSP Ltd in closed loop collaboration

n a truly closed-loop collaboration, JSP Ltd has recently invested in a solar PV panel infrastructure supplied by electrical specialist, Rexel Group, which is being used to generate the energy needed to manufacturer its iconic safety helmets which are, in turn, being sold at Rexel branches nationwide. JSP Ltd is a European market leader in ‘above the neck’ Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and industrial head protection. The business exports to leading distributors across over 100 countries including the Rexel Group. JSP Ltd wanted to reduce its carbon footprint but it wasn’t until Nick Brent, Corporate Development Director at Rexel Group visited, that the possibilities of energy-saving hit home. Nick provided a detailed overview on the
developments in solar PV panels and quickly organised a survey, which demonstrated how JSP could operate its Oxford HQ, serving nearly 200 staff, almost exclusively using solar energy. Nick and his team devised a tailored specification including one of the world’s most sophisticated PV systems, SolarWorld panels, which offer high system efficiency and deliver a

peak power of 250w. This was supported with the Power One solar inverter, along with accessories. Since March 2014, the system has saved 222.7 MWh of electricity and 339.92 tonnes of carbon; the equivalent of 72.5 acres of pine forest. The energy saved is enough to run a TV for 65,784 days or power 1,747 computers for a year. Typically, enough power is produced so that one in three safety helmets is made solely by the sun and 100% on a very sunny day. Nick Brent, Head of Industrial Sales at Rexel
Group said: “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the JSP team on this unique project and look forward to future collaborations to come.” Rexel Group products are available from

Recolight is the leading UK WEEE compliance scheme for the lighting industry, taking on responsibility for its members’ compliance, giving their customers access to the UK’s most comprehensive free lamp collection and recycling service, and ensuring that as many lamps as possible are kept out of landfill. Brussels-based EucoLight will work to enhance the regulatory framework for lighting waste, support the development of appropriate international standards, provide guidance and support to its members, all within the context of ambitious lamp recycling collection rates. Nigel Harvey, Chief Executive of Recolight, who has also been elected to the board of EucoLight said: “There are a number of changes to WEEE being considered at a European level. EucoLight will work to ensure that those changes are appropriate for the lighting industry. I am delighted to be on the board and to support the ongoing work of the lighting industry at a European level.” EucoLight membership is open to any WEEE compliance scheme that fulfils EucoLight criteria. WEEE schemes from a total of 15 different EU member states have already applied.
