36 Chillers Climaveneta invests in 1+i philosophy


CLIMAVENETA has introduced i-FX-W, the new water source chiller designed to deliver unbeatable efficiency and reduced energy consumption in large buildings and process applications. At the core of the i-FX-W(1+i) chiller’s performance is the exclusive 1+i philosophy – a combination of a fixed speed compressor (1) and an inverter driven one (+i), both installed in the same refrigerant circuit.


Pioneered for the first time by Climaveneta, this logic arranges the two compressors to work together in complete synergy, enhancing the best of their features and overcoming the limitations traditionally imposed at full load from full inverter systems and at partial loads from fixed speed screw compressors. In particular, when compared to a chiller adopting two inverter driven compressors, the 1+i logic brings better efficiency results as it allows for achieving almost the same ESEER advantage as a full inverter solution, without facing a significant decrease of EER. The result is a unit working steadily at the highest efficiency – in every load condition and in any season – ensuring ESEER medium value of 8,54 and a reduction in the energy expenses by 23%, when compared to a fixed speed chiller. The flooded evaporator and the shell and tube condenser have been developed and built by Climaveneta in order to fit the requirements of the compressors and to optimise their operation. In particular the shell and tube condenser is designed to ensure reduced


pressure drops and so to decrease the pumping costs, while the layout of the flooded evaporator also allows for the maximum reliability and efficiency given by the perfect temperature uniformity and complete evaporation of the refrigerant. The outline of both the exchangers


has also been conceived to provide the accurate separation and recovery of lubricant, thus guaranteeing the proper compressor lubrication and an easy cleaning of the heat exchanging areas. Quiet operation is designed into i-FX-W as standard, making the product suitable for most mission-critical facilities. Extremely low sound levels in fact characterise the whole range, labelling this unit as one of the quietest available on the market.


At the same time performance and comfort go together with reliability. The unit’s response is ensured not only under normal working conditions, but also in case of power supply failure. Thanks to its ‘fast restart’ capability, i-FX-W units can quickly resume and


regain full operational capacity, making the maximum possible uptime safe. Available in 10 different sizes with capacities from 488 to 1637 kW, the i-FX- W(1+i) range is Eurovent certified and meets the most challenging environmental standards established by the LEED protocol.

SWEP HAS LAUNCHED a new and complete high efficiency product range for chiller applications. This includes a full range of high performance and unique evaporators and condensers that are also climate friendly.


SWEP is able to offer a wide range of BPHE sizes with different plate geometry and different distribution devices to suit the various chiller applications and the technology allows the pressure drop on the secondary side to be reduced while maintaining good heat transfer. In SWEP BPHEs the technology reduces the hold-up volume of the inner circuit by 30%.


This lowers the charge of R410A, saving money on refrigerant and helping manufacturers to comply with environmental legislation. Furthermore, the refrigerant channels are narrower, which increases heat transfer and, hence, efficiency. On the secondary side, the pressure drop is lower – by some 30% compared with normal chiller cases. This means less load on the secondary fluid pump and an improved COP. SWEP offers a variety of products for Chiller application. The DFX310 and the DFX400 are highly effective, versatile True Dual and the natural choice for flexible chillers and climate control applications. Their advantage is their ability to offer full performance at both full and half load. They are optimised for extreme performance with the refrigerant R410A. The B3 enables efficient heat exchange in applications with small flows and extreme demands for compactness. Easy to install and use, the product is small yet flexible, which makes it a particularly good choice for economiser applications and small water coolers. The B30L is optimal as Suction Gas Heat Exchanger. The main objectives are to minimise gas side pressure drop and to restrict the superheating of the gas to 10-20˚K. This will guarantee the efficiency and reduce the wear of the compressor. SWEP is constantly developing its brazed plated heat exchangers (BPHEs) to optimise energy efficiency and material utilisation for the highest sustainability.
