24 Product Development RDM takes transcritical control

RESOURCE DATA MANAGEMENT (RDM), has launched two new products. The dmTouch, its colour HD touch screen management system front end, now features a 10.1in screen. Further optimising the user experience, the larger screen makes it even easier to monitor and control sites from one central point. The launch of the new screen is coupled with a number of software enhancements including faster browsing, optimised responsive interface, heightened graph performance, a new algorithm to further improve the data manager’s ability to highlight energy waste and enhanced language support for The Data Builder (TDB) – RDMs PLC software. A key addition to its Intuitive range is the new Intuitive Transcritical Superpack Controller. Designed for the retail and industrial refrigeration markets the Intuitive Transcritical Superpack

Controller is a versatile expandable

controller intended for HT/LT CO2 Pack, Gas Cooler and HT/LT Oil monitoring and control. Each section is individually selectable and can be set to disabled if not required. The controller can be expanded using up to 10 Expansion Modules, consisting of the Intuitive Stepper Expansion or Intuitive IO Expansion module range. Building on the success of RDM’s existing Transcritical software solutions the new Intuitive Transcritical Superpack controller has similar features and functions as the other controllers in the Intuitive Control range, with a number of key enhancements.

For Gas Cooler and receiver control the Intuitive Transcritical Superpack controller heightens flexibility, giving users the ability to select between 0-10V, 4-20mA, 0-5v, 0.5-4.5v or 0.5-9.5v or stepper control for either or both of the two CO2 valves or

any of the variable outputs, such as fan speed control. Furthermore this can be done using the same application software, allowing for the control of either HT/MT valve using one piece of hardware. The new Intuitive Transcritical Superpack Controller software application is a single piece of software that can be configured to control and monitor the earlier mentioned applications. Using the additional Intuitive expansion boards will allow them to expand the number of control stages and/or introduce an oil management strategy, facilitating five sections of control and monitoring – low temperature compressor, high temperature compressor, gas cooler, oil for LT compressors, oil for HT compressors. As a result the customer has the flexibility to quickly and easily build a solution that specifically meets their needs www.resourcedm.com

Solstice approved by leading global compressor suppliers

LEADING GLOBAL COMPRESSOR manufacturers such as Emerson Climate Technologies, Bitzer and Frascold have approved Honeywell’s Solstice N40 (R448A) and Solstice N13 (R450A) refrigerants for use in their commercial refrigeration compressors following an extensive evaluation.

Solstice N40 and N13 are replacements for widely-used, high-global-warming- potential (GWP) refrigerants used in supermarkets, condensing units and commercial refrigeration equipment. The new products, which are based on hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) technology, have global warming potentials that are at least 60% lower than the refrigerants they are designed to replace, which are based on hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) technology. “We are very pleased that Emerson, Bitzer and Frascold have completed

their testing and approved Solstice N40 and N13 for use in their commercial refrigeration compressors. We see this as a major step forward in helping the industry comply with the European Union’s F-Gas regulation,” said Julien Soulet, managing director for Honeywell Fluorine Products in Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. “Both of these HFO blends have already been tried and tested in many different applications and are commercially available throughout Europe.” Solstice N40 (R448A) is an HFO blend for low- and medium-temperature refrigeration equipment including supermarket freezer cases or transport refrigeration. It is designed to replace R22 and R404A for both new equipment and retrofits and offers a GWP that is 66% lower than R404A. In supermarket trials conducted in the USA and Europe,

Solstice N40 demonstrated 3% lower energy consumption in low-temperature applications and 5% to 16% lower energy consumption in medium-temperature applications when compared to R404A. Solstice N13 (R450A) is an HFO blend for chillers, medium-temperature applications such as supermarket display cases and self-contained refrigeration units that require a non-flammable refrigerant solution. Solstice N13 is designed to replace R134a and offers a GWP that is 60% lower than the GWP of R134a.

In laboratory and supermarket trials, Solstice N13 demonstrated more than 3% lower energy consumption in medium-temperature applications when compared to R134a in the same ambient temperature and humidity conditions. www.honeywell.com
