DRIVES AND MOTORS network is Europe’s largest
T
hirty-five years ago the world seemed a bigger
place but global standardisation is making the world, metaphorically, smaller. Barring the occasional local legislation, throughout Europe we are all governed by the same regulations and directives. Customer service and satisfaction has always been at the top of the agenda; but it now needs to be taken to new levels driven by regulations and directives such as ATEX, EU MEPS, the Machinery Directive and the Energy Efficiency Directive. All of which means both products and services need to be consistent no matter what country they are being operated in. Another area of commonality for industrial products is customer
demands for higher efficiencies, greater reliability and improved productivity. End-users of drives and motors seek the same goals which include enhanced end-product quality, increased production throughput, maximised process up-time, minimised maintenance, less energy waste, reduced electricity costs and lower CO2 emissions. Then there is the challenge presented by original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) who export their end-products. They expect the same levels of back-up and support for the drives and motors that are used in their products, regardless of the country of use. Therefore the pressure is on for manufacturers to ensure that they can
provide consistent levels of service, wherever in the world their products find themselves.
To address these challenges ABB created the Authorised Value Providers
network. Companies joining the network must have a viable business that has been involved with motor-driven systems for several years. In the UK this was relatively easy, migrating an already established network of drives and motors partners, with over 15 years of experience of working with ABB, its products and its customers. The network invests in dedicated internal engineers, sales personnel and service engineers; have suitable premises with a training facility and workshop; and agree stock levels and a joint business plan. They also complete a series of rigorous training courses and exams and are given direct access to ABB engineers with expert knowledge in different areas. This ensures that the high quality of technical support and product back- up, required by ABB customers, is consistent throughout Authorised Value Provider operations. The result is that the Authorised Value Providers get access to ABB’s
entire portfolio of life cycle services which includes installation and commissioning, preventive maintenance, upgrades and retrofits, training and service agreements. ABB has always offered bespoke life cycle support contracts to customers, which are designed to protect customer investments and maximise uptime of critical assets. Now these are being offered via the Authorised Value Providers and can even include non-ABB drives.
