ittal has developed four compact PDU (Power Distribution Units) systems for professional power distribution in IT racks which will halve the time a system takes to assemble compared to screw in PDUs. The system employs snap-in technology so not only is it very quick and easy to assemble, there is also no need for tools. Up to four PDUs can be mounted in the zero-U-space, (the space between the side of the 19-inch level and the side panel of an 800-mm wide IT rack) so no height units for servers are wasted. Options include: The “PDU basic” which provides a robust and compact basis power distribution for the IT environment. The insert strip is easily connected and is immediately functional.

Robots create the perfect ‘rise’ for baked goods

C

hris Sumner, MD of FANUC UK considers why robotic uptake within the bakery sector has been lower than that in other manufacturing sectors. The bakery sector is extremely broad, covering anything from ingredients, mixes and blends to bread, rolls, cakes and pre-made snack foods. Robotic uptake within the bakery segment has traditionally been lower than other manufacturing sectors, primarily due to concerns over price. However, robotic systems are highly useful in picking, placing, sack filling and palletising and have become far more affordable (for example the cost of FANUC’s latest palletiser the M410iC/185 is 7% lower compared to its predecessor, yet has a 12% increase in payload capacity). From bagged products to palletisers, robots provide an ideal solution for bakery lines.

Verderflex Peristaltic Pumps replaces Air Diaphragm pump at paper and packaging plant

Challenge

A leading paper and packaging manufacture in Australia was using Air- Operated Double Diaphragm (AODD) pumps to deliver 4-colour ink to its printers. The on-site AODD pumps were using considerable amounts of compressed air and required constant maintenance due to the wearable parts (seals and valves). This was resulting in unacceptable long downtimes and high cost of repair and parts. The customer wanted pumps that would offer increased durability and low maintenance, decreasing the cost of owner- ship by lowering repair/service costs. In addition and more importantly, the pumps needed to deliver the shear sensitive inks to the printers without foaming or separation.

Solution

After assessing the process, Australian Verderflex distributor, Global Pumps were able to recommend the Verderflex Rapide R8 Peristaltic Industrial Tube Pumps to replace existing AODD pumps. The Rapide R8 belongs to the Verderflex® Rapide family of simple to operate industrial tube pumps which are perfect for heavy duty applications, where viscous mediums are being pumped. The R8 has a maximum flow rate of 470 l/hr and dis- charge pressures of up to 2 bar. These industrial peristaltic tube pumps have a compact footprint, deliver high output, are available as dual head pump and offer multi-directional orientations of the pump head. These key features make the Rapide easy to integrate into your working process. The customer saved both cost and time by having high dependability and only one

wearing part – the tube. With a simple clamping mechanism enabling tube change, the pumps are easy to maintain onsite, without requiring specialist repairs. There are no seals or valves to replace, nor impellers that can become clogged.

Result

A very happy customer quoted that the Verderflex Rapide R8 is a “great pump and very reliable”. In addition to the benefits described above, the customer was delighted that the pumps also save money on ink during setup/cleaning between jobs by being reversible. They simply pump any unused ink back into the supply after the print job is finished.

Verderflex Industrial Pumps: Verderflex’s peristaltic range of Industrial pumps includes the new Dura 55 hose pump. This innovative, superbly engineered pump is designed to deliver over 20% more flow, increasing the Dura Hose pump family’s flow range. The Verderflex Dura 55 is the class leader for this size of peristaltic pump, significantly outperforming its competitors in both continuous and intermittent duty applications. The addition of the Verderflex Dura 55 expands the Dura range’s flow rates from <1 l/hr to 15.3 m³/hr at pressures up to 16 bar.
