A St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Dervish Thursday, March 17 at 7:30 pm $40/$32/$25

“One of the most dazzling bands in Irish traditional music today.” —Hearth Music

Dervish, the high-spirited traditional group from Ireland’s County Sligo, returns to the Flynn. Singer Cathy Jordan leads the group in tunes performed in both Gaelic and English, spinning tales of life and love in a rich, evocative voice. With high-energy reels and jigs on fiddle, flute, accordion, bouzouki, and mandolin, the six-member band “weaves a hypnotic brand of traditional magic, leaving their audience in a state of toe-tapping excitement” (Dublin Evening Herald).

Samuel Beckett Trilogy “Not I / Footfalls / Rockaby”

Wednesday, March 23 at 7:30 pm $50/$40/$30

“An extraordinary hour-long experience that feels more like a group hallucination . . . totally gripping, unforgettable.” —The Independent

In a performance that’s as spirited as it is flawless, Irish actress Lisa Dwan performs three one-woman plays by Samuel Beckett—Not I, Footfalls, and Rockaby. Emerging from—and disappearing back into—complete darkness, the plays come and go like flashes of lightning in the night. From a single set of lips suspended far above the stage to a silent woman pacing back and forth, the astonishing Dwan “doesn’t just uncover layers; she digs all the way to the void beneath them” (New York Times). Directed by the playwright’s longtime friend Walter Asmus, this is Beckett performed the way the author would have dreamed.
