Cunard treated 40 agents from the northeast to tickets to see Sting perform songs from his musical, The Last Ship. The Gateshead event was part of the line’s 175th anniversary celebrations and highlighted Cunard’s connection to the area’s shipyards. In total, 23 Cunard ships were built

identified were: ‘social capital seekers’; ‘cultural purists’; ‘ethical travellers’; ‘simplicity searchers’; ‘obligation meeters’; and ‘reward hunters’. Social capital seekers base their holiday decisions almost exclusively with their online ‘audience’ in mind – they are driven to travel to places that can boost their social media standing, tweeting about their trip. Cultural purists want an
authentic experience and to ‘get
under the skin’ of a destination. They will also be attracted by ‘last chance tourism’ to places that are vulnerable to climate change. Ethical travellers will make decisions on moral grounds, looking to minimise their carbon footprint and add volunteering or eco- sustainable activity to holidays. Simplicity
searchers like ‘bundled’ offers and a straightforward booking process, with everything
organised by the travel agent or tour operator. Obligation meeters’ travel plans
focus on events such as a birthday or wedding. Reward hunters seek indulgent
travel and ‘must-have’ premium experiences. The report also predicts that
more business travellers will tag holidays on to work trips.
