The commission oversees the Texas Department of Transportation. Tryon Dexter Lewis, Odessa, is a former state representative from Texas’ 81st District, serving from 2008 to 2015. Prior to serving in the Texas Legislature, Rep. Lewis prac- ticed law in Odessa from 1973 to 1984, with a primary emphasis on civil litigation. Lewis is a partner at Atkins, Hollman Jones, Peacock, Lewis & Lyon Law Firm. Texas Agricultural Land Trust has announced that Chief Executive Offi cer Blair Fitzsimons and her hus- band Joseph Fitzsimons, a director of Texas and South- western Cattle Raisers Association, are the 2015 re- cipients of the Corpus Christi Rotary Club Harvey Weil Sportsman Conservationist of the Year award. Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has announced
that Angela Olige will serve as Assistant Commissioner of Food and Nutrition at the Texas Department of Agri- culture (TDA). Olige previously served as chief admin- istrator of TDA’s Food and Nutrition Division. As the As- sistant Commissioner of Food and Nutrition, Olige will oversee business operations, nutrition education and outreach, program compliance, and administrative and operational budgets for all nutrition programs. Dr. Susan Culp, the Texas Animal Health Commission’s (TAHC) Lead Veterinarian for Authorized Personnel Programs, received the Community Service Award for DPS region 6 from the Emergency Management Asso- ciation of Texas (EMAT) on March 3 at the annual EMAT conference in San Marcos. The award recognizes a person who has provided leadership, guidance, facili- ties, equipment, or support to an emergency manage- ment program, a community, or the profession in the furtherance of mitigation, preparedness, response, or recovery activities. Through her work as Chair of the Di- saster Preparedness Committee of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Culp has been instrumental in recruiting and training veterinary practitioners and stu- dents to become more involved with their local emer- gency management offi cials.
