PREVIEW MULTIMODAL 2015

Green initiatives and inventory optimisation I

nventory optimisation and reducing the environmental impact and operational costs of warehousing are two of the topical workshops headlining this year’s Multimodal show at the Birmingham NEC. The UK and Ireland’s leading transport and supply chain event will host a UK Warehouse Association Pavilion on the exhibition floor. The Rack Group, Flexi and Spaciotempo

will join 250 transport and logistics exhibitors showcasing innovative solutions to an expected 7500 visitors. “Multimodal brings supply chain decision makers together with innovators and suppliers with the right experience,” says director Robert Jervis. “We are looking forward to a lively three days of networking and business opportunities for visitors and exhibitors as well as some informative debate and useful training sessions.” Innovations being showcased will include a 100% recyclable lightweight pallet made by Pallite and capable of lifting a tonne of product with a stacking strength of seven tonnes.

GREEN ALTERNATIVES A panel session on 29 April chaired by the CA Group will look at green alternatives and cost-saving ideas for warehousing including using the building envelope to generate heat, solar PV and modern building design. On 28 April enVista will share insight

on inventory optimisation, looking at ensuring the right SKU is in the right place at the right time. A seminar on cutting emissions in our cities chaired by Gasrec will look at options and solutions, bringing shippers together with providers to debate the issues.

“We have teamed up with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and the Freight Transport Association (FTA) to put together a program looking at innovation and how to run slicker, more compliant supply chains,” explains seminar director Emma Murray. “We will be hosting a mix of panel debates, workshops and seminars to tackle the big issues, look at legislation and showcase innovative products and ideas.” Retailers including Boots and Waitrose

will be sharing their supply chain insight during the show joined by Blue Chip companies such as Lafarge, National Rail and DB Schenker.

The CILT’s Omnichannel panel on 28 April will look at how supply chains can adapt to demands in addition to challenges and solutions including a look at environmental issues and drones. Modal shift to rail and water will feature on the FTA’s seminar day on 29 April including input from Sainsbury’s and the Co-Operative speaking about the solutions that have worked for them. Visitors will be able to take part in a

session on Measuring Carbon Footprint run by the FTA as well as a series of talks focusing on air freight efficiencies including a look at warehousing options at the UK’s airports. A full list of the topics and speakers
