Student accommodation inspires with Array carpet
Students living in the Riverside apartments in Salford are guaranteed a bright start to their day after Array carpet tiles from Heckmondwike FB were specified for the development’s corridors.
The carpet was specified by HVB Flooring to refurbish the four storey development, which aims to set a new standard for students living in the North West.
HVB Flooring carefully selected a different Array colour for each level, which included Red and Blue, as well as the new colours Peacock and Marble, to create a striking interior to the building. Complementary Broadrib colours were used alongside Array to give the interior of the apartment block a bright, welcoming feel. Blocks of colour were also used to highlight the location of the lift. All 50 apartments in the development will now be carpeted with Array to meet the standard set by the new corridor flooring.
Sharni Verity, Marketing Executive at Heckmondwike FB, said: “Array is becoming increasingly popular for student accommodation as it offers stunning aesthetics, as well as the durability and performance of our fibre bonded carpet. The wide range of colours now available in the Array range mean that some really inspiring designs can be created.” Array can be installed quickly and easily, which was essential to this development as the refurbishment took place during term time, when the flats were occupied.

Bituchem launches new Natratex Porous hard landscaping product
New Graphics Inspire Young Minds
High quality films from 3M have been used to transform the inner link courtyard at Garth Hill College in Bracknell into an inspirational and thought provoking area for both staff and students. Innovative graphical design specialists, Surface View, worked closely with the college and 3M Commercial Graphics to design, manufacture and install extraordinary, colourful and intricate artwork throughout a large covered space between the main buildings of the college.
Working together as a team, Garth Hill College, 3M Commercial Graphics and Surface View discussed and developed concepts for pillar wraps, floor graphics and textured surfaces. Among the designs were smaller pillars presenting aspirational messages that express the college’s values and the experiences of the students. Scotchcal Graphic Film by 3M was the ideal choice as it is hard-wearing, can be applied directly to brick surfaces, and incorporates a non-slip laminated surface treatment for safety.

Bituchem has re-invented its leading Natratex product to create a new porous alternative to the popular asphalt material. Natratex Porous has been designed to replicate the natural infiltration methods of water and doing away with the need for conventional draining systems. Bituchem has introduced Natratex Porous in response to the demand for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in commercial and domestic landscaping due to the prolonged periods of rainfall, whilst maintaining the natural aesthetics of the Natratex product.
Laid on a porous receiving layer, the asphalt material with its open structure allows water to permeate through the surface and steadily absorb into the ground, following the natural process to a river or other water source. Natratex Porous thus eliminates the likelihood of blocked drains from excess rainfall and potential contamination of lakes and rivers from the build-up of waste water. Natratex Porous is suitable for areas that see pedestrian and light vehicular use such as car parks, footpaths, recreational parks, residential roads and driveways, and especially areas that are susceptible to flooding. Available in buff, grey, red or salmon, the colour co-ordinated aggregate and pigments combined with a clear binder provides a decorative yet durable hard landscaping surface.
As with all of Bituchem’s products, Natratex Porous is laid as a monolithic surface allowing the water to filter through the material itself. This reduces the risk of trip hazards when compared to other permeable paving, as they are often laid in blocks to allow the water to absorb through the gaps.
