Improving literacy, numeracy and assessment at the

he Education Show returns to the NEC, Birmingham from Thursday 19 - Saturday 21 March 2015. The three day event continues to be a calendar highlight for educators looking to stay up-to-date with the world of teaching and learning, and with a rich offering of new content, inspiring training and development, and hundreds of pioneering educational suppliers, 2015 is set to follow suit! The Central Feature this year, the Literacy, Numeracy and Assessment theatre, focuses on innovative teaching and how it can improve literacy and numeracy skills across all subjects, and addresses the changes to assessment facing both primary and secondary institutions. The free CPD accredited sessions are all free to attend, on a first come first served basis.

Mentoring and development of multi-abilities


Hear the story of how Mo Farah was mentored to Olympic success. In this session, Alan Watkinson, partnership director for Sport Impact and Mo Farah’s Mentor, will highlight a highly successful approach to mentoring teachers to improve competence and competence in their


teaching with specific regard to Physical Education. It explores the possibilities of making this approach more widely available. When? Thursday 19 March, 13:30 - 14:00


Assessment in schools


Colin Watson, deputy director, Assessment Policy and Development, DfE will cover the changes to assessment and accountability as part of the implementation of the new National Curriculum. This will include discussion of the removal of levels, the reception baseline, the changes to Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 tests, the use of scaled scores for reporting test results and the new progress measures for primary schools. This session will also provide information on the support available for schools in dealing with the changes, including the newly announced ‘Commission on assessment without levels’. When? Maths and introducing the Flipped Classroom Janet Perrett, head of Maths at Ashlawn School will be discussing ideas and experiences of using the Flipped Classroom.
