Totally Tools & Totally DIY Show Review
– Continued from Page 10 solvents and even underwater on just about any substrate material to stop leaks.
Sounds like a “must have” for any emergency plumber or AA technician’s toolbox. Draper Tools is always a big and
impressive presence at shows and I was keen to look at their up-to-the-minute digital response to show displays. Gone are long stands of products that take hours to put up and take down. Visitors can simply log on to the display screens and track virtually the products they want to see. The display provides demos and product details based on the huge demo facility that Draper Tools has down in Chandlers Ford. The lively team from
Birmingham innovations led by Jon Proud confirmed the show’s innovation agenda. He was happy to show me some of the latest ideas they are bringing to market, such as the plasterer’s profiling tape that can simply be cut from a roll and bent to form a corner profile ready for the
plasterer to work to. I was also interested in the loft insulation platforms having recently tried to upgrade my loft insulation by using 4x2s to fit on top of the joists to make more space for insulation. Theirs is a much easier solution and costs less too…. I was able to have a quick look at the new range of Optimaxx screws
distributed by Globefast. They certainly look the business and with power driving of screws the only way forward these days, I have a few samples to try out on site. Quality screws are the only way to go in my view, because power driven screws soon have their weaknesses found out. Preval Sprayers also caught my attention. Forget being tied to buying big
quantities of sprays only for most of them to be wasted. The Preval system allows users to customize not only the liquids (anything from paint to balsamic vinegar) they want to spray, but also the quantities at a much cheaper basic cost. Fresh from their rebranding, from Serracon to DART Tool Group, the DART
team had a quantity of great power tool accessories to show. Very competitively priced and of high quality, I am looking forward to getting my hands on some of them for review in the future. Am-Tech too are grasping the nettle in the highly competitive torches and
lighting market with a range of torches developed in partnership with the CREE LED Corporation in the US. Being Am-Tech, the products are very competitively priced with some innovative market niches aimed at. The ToolBusiness Team
was struck by the general buzz of the Totally Tools Show on the Monday we were there. It was great to see the levels of general optimism and the ranges of old and new products, with many new names mixed in with the established ones. From the conversations I
heard and was involved in, there are still many opportunities to be
exploited and niches to be filled – I never cease to be amazed by the range of ideas that people bring to market. Next year, Totally Tools is moving to a two-day midweek format, but still at the
Ricoh Arena. The dates for the diary are Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th February. It turns out that key trade people prefer to be at their desks at the beginning and end of each week, so a midweek slot makes more sense for them. See you all next year, where hopefully we will have many more new and old products to see.
