We’re happy to introduce several new features for American Pharmaceutical Review in this first issue of 2015. Those of you who read Pharmaceutical Outsourcing got a sneak peek at these upgrades when that issue hit your mailboxes a few weeks ago, and hopefully you will be excited to see these changes carried over into APR.

First of all, we are including a full reference citation—including in-print page numbers—for each article next to the author and submitted/accepted information. This will allow for much easier, complete citations of our articles in the future, especially for prospective authors who access our articles via our website (www.AmericanPharmaceuticalReview.com).

As you may already know, our parent company, CompareNetworks, Inc. (CN), also publishes several other outstanding industry trade publications. We are introducing a new section called “CN Perspective,” which offers a brief glimpse at some insightful articles from our sister publications that readers of APR may find interesting. On that same page, we also have a new feature called “Meet The Reader,” where we share a short, fun profile of one of our readers who responded to our “Meet The Reader” survey. This section is a small step in our efforts to help bring together our wonderful community of readers and engage each other more closely in our ongoing dialogue of innovative discoveries, partnerships, and content.

And speaking of communities, we are also unveiling our social media page, on which you will see various tweets and posts that have caught our eye recently as we engage in the greater online social media world. We hope you find these posts as interesting as we did. We expect to see these pages evolve and grow over time as we continue to engage our readers and the industry.

We have some fascinating articles in this issue as well. One in particular that I would like to highlight is the article from Dr. Chimenti. You have often seen articles on Raman spectroscopy in our pages, but I’m pleased to bring you a Raman article that pushes the utility of Raman beyond traditional uses. Dr. Chimenti and his team have applied Raman spectroscopy to the detection of cancer, which bears the exciting potential to bring life-saving early detection and intervention to areas in the world without access to sophisticated diagnostic laboratories.

I hope you enjoy this and the other articles in the publication.

Now comes the hard part. This will be my last issue as Editor-in-Chief of APR (and its sister publication, PO). I have made the difficult decision to move on down the trail. It has been a real pleasure to get to meet our readers, and I consider myself lucky and honored to have worked with some of the best scientific minds and brilliant authors in the pharmaceutical industry. Please feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn, follow me on Twitter (@johnessex3), or even drop me a line at john.essex(at)gmail.com.

Thank you for coming along for the ride. I’ll leave you with a thought from naturalist Henry David Thoreau:

In accumulating property for ourselves or our posterity, in founding a family or a state, or acquiring fame even, we are mortal; but in dealing with truth we are immortal, and need fear no change nor accident. —Walden, p. 99.

Finally, as always, thanks for reading

John E. Essex III Editor-in-Chief jessex@comparenetworks.com
