Davis and White receive Thurman Munson award


Olympic ice dance champions


Meryl Davis and Charlie White were among the honorees at the 35th an- nual Thurman Munson Awards, given annually for success on the fi eld of play and philanthropic works off the fi eld. The awards were presented at


the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on Feb. 3. In addition to Da- vis and White, New York Yankees four- time world champion center fi elder Bernie Williams, Yankees all-star rookie relief pitcher Dellin Betances, New York Mets 1986 world champion center fi elder Mookie Wilson and Giants Super Bowl champion punter Steve Weather- ford were recognized. Davis and White were awarded for their outstanding 2013–14 season,

which included their sixth consecutive U.S. title, fi fth consecutive Grand Prix Final title and the fi rst U.S. ice dance Olympic gold, as well as their amazing work off the ice. Their philanthropic work included their support of the Class- room Champions program, which connects students in high-need schools with top performing athletes to help them recognize their potential, set goals and dream big. Davis and White are also honorary chairpersons for the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit and have supported many charities in the past, including the American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish, March of Dimes, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Humane Society. Since its inception, the Thurman Munson Awards Dinner has raised


more than $13 million for programs that serve New York City children and adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.


Aldridge and Eaton end partnership Two-time U.S. junior ice dance champions Alexandra


Aldridge and Daniel Eaton announced in January they have ended their partnership. Both skaters have expressed interest in fi nding new partners. Aldridge and Eaton began their partnership six years


ago. Last season, they trained in Canton, Michigan, under coaches Marina Zoueva, Massimo Scali, Johnny Johns and Oleg Epstein. They previously trained in Bloomfi eld Hills, Michigan, under coaches Pasquale Camerlengo and Ange- lika Krylova. Aldridge and Eaton won the U.S. junior ice dance ti-


tles in 2012 and 2013 and won World Junior bronze med- als those same years. They are the reigning Four Continents bronze medalists. “I am going to continue to skate and I am looking for a


partner with whom I can reach new goals,” Aldridge said. “I thank all of our coaches for welcoming us with open arms and for standing by us through this season. I am grateful for all of the success that Daniel and I had together and wish him the best.” “I can’t begin to thank U.S. Figure Skating enough for all of the support over the years,” Eaton said. “I also want to thank our many fans whose support drove Alex and me to our success. I am excited to fi nd an- other partner and hope to return to the U.S. stage next season.”
