FANFEST Olympic silver medalist and North Carolina resident Paul Wylie visits with fans at the FanFest rink inside the Greens- boro Coliseum. Wylie, the honorary chairman of the 2015 U.S. Championships, provided a skating demonstration and signed autographs. Thousands of people took a break between the skating sessions to tour FanFest, which included food vendors, an infl atable zone, photo opportunities with Disney’s Frozen characters and the U.S. Championship Trophy, TV and radio live broadcasts, live music performances, a chance to see a NA- SCAR race car and meet members of Team USA. A U.S. Figure Skating Museum exhibit featuring the evolution of dresses and skates was also on display, and people could skate for free on the main practice rink on the last Sunday morning of the event.


SOCIAL SCENE


U.S. pairs bronze medalists Tarah Kayne and Daniel O’Shea ham it up in the “Social Scene” with Internet celebrity and comedian Michael Buckley. The show aired on icenetwork.

The Prudential Skating Fund’s mission is to provide fi nan- cial support to underserved groups and communities within the sport of fi gure skating. Emily Chan and Jonah Barrett, the novice singles champions, receive the Cecilia Colledge Memorial Fund Award in Greensboro. The Colledge Award is presented annually to the novice lady and novice man who achieve the highest combined program components scores. The award was estab- lished by Ms. Colledge’s estate following her death in 2008. She enjoyed a successful skating career, winning the silver medal at the 1936 Olympic Winter Games and the 1937 World title while representing Great Britain. She relocated in 1957 and joined The Skating Club of Boston’s coaching staff , where she taught until 1977. Joe Blount, president of The Skating Club of Boston, presented Chan and Barrett with a scholarship certifi cate.


Grains of Time, North Carolina State’s music department-spon- sored male a cappella group, perform during breaks in the ladies free skate. The Grains have been part of NC State’s campus life for more than four decades and have a loyal following on campus and throughout the state.
