Miami

University kicks off the season on a strong note with a bronze medal.

we enjoyed incredible European breakfasts fully stocked with every yogurt and bread choice you could imagine and even got to try Wiener schnit- zel for lunch one day. Te food was delicious, but most of all, the city’s chocolates were the over- whelming favorites. — Jennifer Stewart, Miami University

How does this event compare to other inter- national events you’ve previously competed at?

Compared to the U.S. teams, did you notice any differences in the skating style of the teams you competed against?

Yes. It’s how they truly go for every move- ment and fully embody their character through- out the entire program. Many times, they can be just the slightest bit crisper than the U.S. teams, making their programs come off stronger. Tese are all things that the U.S. teams are easily capable

of and will help us to soar to the next level. It’s not about changing ourselves to skate like any other team, but instead, it’s all about truly believing in ourselves and just going for it. — Ashley Mulhern, Miami University

As a first-time Team USA member, what did the experience of competing at an interna- tional competition mean to you?

It was so surreal. Te whole time I was pinching myself to make sure it was all really happening. During the short program, we were finishing our last element, the traveling circle, and I can remember thinking of what an amazing and exhilarating feeling it was to compete as a mem- ber of Team USA. It was an honor to represent my country for the first time with this group of amazing young women. I would not have traded this experience for anything.

How was the food in Austria? Did you try anything new?

Music, my team and I were fully prepared for crisp apple strudel and schnitzel with noodles during our time in Austria, but sadly never had the op- portunity. With most of our meals at the hotel,

Te atmosphere of the competition, as a whole, was invigorating. With so many teams competing from all around the world, there was a lot of excitement around the rink. We were always being asked to trade pins or the American flag toothpicks we wore in our hair. Te competition was also well organized. Lastly, the live stream for this competition was excellent. It provided the opportunity for all of our friends and family to watch even though they could not be there in per- son.
