USA Volleyball honors the best of 2014


ALISHA GLASS | USA Volleyball Female Indoor Player of the Year


On a team full of brilliant performers, setter Glass’s play may have shined the brightest for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team in 2014. Head coach Karch Kiraly called Glass the team’s “most consis- tent all-around performer this year,” and Glass was instrumental in helping the U.S. Women win the FIVB World Championship for the fi rst time in team history. Starting in 11 of 13 World Championship matches, Glass kept the U.S. offense rolling and scored 11 kills, 15 blocks and fi ve aces of her own.


U.S WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM | USA Volleyball Indoor Team of the Year


The U.S. Women are No. 1 in the world after a banner season in which they won the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship for the fi rst time in team history. The win was a true team effort as all 14 women on the U.S. ros- ter started at least two matches during the tournament. The team compiled a 33-8 record over the course of the 2014 season and built a lot of momentum for next year’s Olympic qualifi cation push. USA Volleyball CEO Doug Beal has high hopes for the U.S. Women’s future. “I think this team is ahead of schedule. It’s exciting to think how much better they can get because of how young they are,” Beal said.


MATT ANDERSON | USA Volleyball Indoor Male Athlete of the Year


This is the third straight season Anderson, 27, has won the Player of the Year honor, and the third straight season he has led the U.S. Men’s National team in kills (431 in 100 sets) and scoring (485 points). Anderson also fi nished second on the team in digs (122) and third in aces (27). During pool play of FIVB World League competition, Anderson led all players in scoring while continuing to anchor the U.S. team from the oppo- site position.

KALEO KANAHELE | USA Volleyball Female Sitting Volleyball Player of the Year


Kanahele, only 18 years old, provided strong play and leader- ship from the setter’s position for the U.S. Women’s National Sitting Volleyball Team in 2014, guiding to the team to the silver medal at the World Championship tourna- ment in Poland. Team USA earned a spot in the 2016 Paralympic Games for their performance and Kanahele was named Best Setter of the tournament. Kanehele said “winning this award, honestly, just kind of shows that the little pieces matter.”


PHIL DALHAUSSER | USA Volleyball Male Beach Player of the Year Dalhausser continued to cement his status as beach volleyball’s most dominant net player in 2014, winning three FIVB Grand Slam tourna- ments with partner Sean Rosenthal and ending the year as the second-ranked team in the world. This marked the ninth consecutive year that


Dalhausser has won at least one FIVB event, though his 2014 sea- son was cut short in August by a strained abdominal muscle that sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
