sion behind this year’s slogan

“Skating is for Everyone!” Colleen Tomas, recreation coordina- tor for the City of Mentor, Ohio, shared its National Skating Month success story. “We had about 525 people skate in our

4½-hour day,” Tomas said. “We also had more than 700 people attend who didn’t skate. We offered free lessons and exhibi- tions, and our DJ was there keeping it fun. We also presented great prizes and gave $10 to anyone who registered for learn-to-state classes. It was a great day and it gets better every year.”

Ice Cadettes win

NSM video contest The Ice Cadettes pre-juvenile syn-

chronized skating team, representing Glacier Falls FSC in Paramount, California, has won the third annual National Skat- ing Month Video Contest. Skaters and teams were charged with submitting a 30-second video stating why they love figure skating. For winning the contest, the Ice

Cadettes received a U.S. Figure Skating prize pack along with having their video featured last month at the 2015 Pruden- tial U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Susi Wehrli-McLaughlin, U.S. Fig-

ure Skating’s senior director of member- ship, calls member clubs and programs the “backbone of the organization.” “Every year they step up to the plate and do a wonderful job of attracting new people to our great sport,” Wehrli-Mc- Laughlin said. “Teir ideas, energy and willingness to share their passion for skat- ing are exemplary.” Arizona writer Scott Mammoser contributed to this story.
