THE FUTURE OF GREEN CONSTRUCTION
Ecobuild 2015 will address key public sector building challenges, say organisers
ECOBUILD RETURNS TO London’s East End in March. Hosting more than 600 industry experts and more than 400 technology, services and solutions providers, it aims to equip public sector professionals with the right training, tools and technologies to deliver sustainable buildings. Ecobuild’s conference and seminar
programme will tackle a raft of issues, from designing buildings which don’t overheat and are energy efficient, comfortable and atractive to ensuring buildings are delivered cost effectively, efficiently and perform as designed, and from delivering beter buildings through programmes such as building information modelling (BIM) to how to tap into available funding pools such as the renewable heat incentive (RHI). For procurement professionals, Ecobuild
houses many of the industry’s leading technology providers, covering areas such as future construction materials, lighting and technical solutions, solar, low carbon, resource management and energy efficiency and generation. From energy storage to the renewable
heat incentive, Ecobuild’s green energy and solar city seminar programmes will provide tailored sessions on renewables for both public and private sectors. The green energy programme,
sponsored by biomass experts Innasol, will cover the specification and delivery of
low- and zero-carbon energy technologies to homes and other buildings. It will also look at energy supply at the community level. Topics will include determining the most cost-effective technology for specific applications, meeting regulations, leveraging the feed-in tariff and renewable heat incentive. This stream will examine the different energy technologies and how to specify these and the latest technical developments, including energy storage. The solar city programme (in association
with SMA Solar) also returns for 2015 to cover both residential and commercial projects. For the first time, specific sessions will be held for the public sector, including a focus on school solar projects. Having received requests from more
than 6,000 Ecobuild atendees wanting to know more about water management and efficiency, organisers UBM have incorporated a dedicated water area and programme in the 2015 event. Visitors will experience an industry showcase, from the latest consultancy and services and water-efficient and water recycling products to water infrastructure innovations. Ecobuild’s official water sponsor Wavin and its brands Hep2O and OSMA will be joined by a number of brands now commited to the event, including ACO, Rainwater Harvesting Ltd, Balmoral Tanks, Biorock and Alutec. Seminar sessions include: urban
liveability and wellbeing; balancing blue, green and grey infrastructure; water- efficient buildings and landscapes – how do we do it?; and water resilience for cities. New for 2015 is a dedicated innovation
area. Sponsored by M&S, this curated innovation exhibition will showcase a selection of exhibitors’ new products. In order to foster innovation, Ecobuild will host a ‘Dragons’ Den’-style session during which companies will pitch their new ideas to a panel of industry experts. For 2015 this will take the form of a conference session held in one of the two arenas. In conjunction with M&S and the UK-GBC, Ecobuild will launch a search for the best innovations and the team of judges will whitle these down. Ecobuild’s sister event Resource (www.
resource-event) is aimed at those wanting to address the management of waste in the education sector. Challenging the way we think about waste, this will help local authorities embrace new circular business models to recover greater value from waste. How to build waste management processes into the design of new homes rather than taking the traditional retrospective approach will also be a topic for discussion.
