Yorkshire academy opts for dome rooflights
Leeds East Academy has installed Mardome rooflights as part of its bid to achieve a ‘very good’ BREEAM rating. The rooflights from Bret Martin Daylight Systems have helped to provide a more functional internal teaching environment – while reducing demand for electric lighting and lowering CO2 emissions and running costs. Designed by Maber Architects, the
1,100 pupil school was constructed in 60 weeks using a room pod system – free- standing and structurally independent from the 8,450 sqm building envelope. As well as a solar PV system, lighting
controls and a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, some 17 Mardome Trade rooflights were specified to provide natural daylight in communal areas. The room pods achieve the standard required daylight factor of two, while the corridors and communal areas achieve a daylight factor of 5.5. Glazed in opal, which provides a
more diffused daylight and prevents solar glare, the rooflights comply with energy efficiency and performance targets in line with stringent building regulations. Thermal performance was

crucial and the triple-skin Mardomes helped satisfy the requirements of Part L with a U-value of 1.8 W/m2K and achieve the necessary BREEAM credits. Eight of the rooflights were also

New high bay LED launched
integrates a Bridgelux Vero circular LED chip with a radial die patern to create improved lumen density and beam control. This in turn provides true colour reproduction with two- and three-colour SDCM colour control/management. Uniform white light is assured at colour temperatures of 3000K, 4000K and 5000K. A nano-coated reflector, incorporating a special light-scatering coating, boosts light yields by 10 per cent. With an efficacy of 107 Lm/W, the GX1 provides an improved lux performance compared to a 400W traditional high-bay light. The new GX1 is supported by a unique
LED Eco Lights has launched the Goodlight GX1 LED High Bay. Providing bright light and incorporating patented cooling technology, the Goodlight BX1
heat management system which pulls heat away from the LED. In addition, a patented ‘phase-change’ liquid core ensures rapid heat transfer thereby maintaining more lumens for longer. Aesthetics have also been addressed in the design of the new range. The GX1 offers a 3-in-1 dimming
capability which is compatible with 1-10V, PWM signal and resistance. It
also incorporates protection with auto-recovery to cope with a variety of situations including short circuits, current surges and overheating. Future proofing has also been
a factor in the design. Thanks to modular construction, components can be interchanged or replaced during upgrading – components such as a replaceable driver and an optional solder-less plug-and-play LED chip. “We are confident that our new
