Nuplex Industries of Australia and New Zealand is selling its Nuplex Masterbatch and Nuplex Specialities businesses to Axieo for AUD127.5 million (US$112 million). Axieo is a newly created company formed with funds advised by Champ Private Equity. Nuplex is a global supplier


of resins for coatings and composites and said that its Masterbatch operations and its Specialties business, which


Melitek completes its plant expansion


Melitek, the compounder of plastics for medical and healthcare applications, has completed the expansion of its plant in Nørre Alslev, Denmark. The project included the addition of a new production line and an extra warehouse. The company’s manag-


ing director, Kim Laursen said that the expansion had proceeded “according to plan and budget”. The new state-of-the-art 8,000 tonnes/year production line was ready for start-up in October 2014. It will be used for


producing thermoplastics and elastomer compounds. Melitek reports increased demand for its Meliflex elastomer for replacing PVC. ❙ www.melitek.com

distributes raw materials and specialty chemicals, are “non-core” to its global strategy. Both of these divisions are principally focused on Australia and New Zealand, although Nuplex Masterbatch also operates a plant in Vietnam. Nuplex substantially


expanded its existing Culamix colour and additive master- batch operations in 2011 with the acquisition of Acquos – the


former Ciba/Clariant master- batch business in Australia. The combined businesses were renamed Nuplex Masterbatch.


The division operates four


masterbatch plants in Australia, located at Thomas- town (VIC), Geelong (VIC), Alexandria (NSW) and Geebung (QLD). In addition, it has production facilities in Auckland, New Zealand, and in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.


A total of 186 people are


employed in the Nuplex Masterbatch business, which accounts for around 3% of Nuplex’s total annual sales of approximately NZ$1.6 billion (US$1.3 billion).


The majority of the sale to


Axieo is expected to be completed by the end of 2014, with divestment of the Vietnam assets following in the first half of 2015. ❙ www.nuplex.com
