and there is still plenty of room left over for tackle, lunch and enough gear that I could leave my storage crate in the truck. Once I was plugged in and charged up, I twisted the dial and
the motor sparked to life. While Labree and Hadden paddled hard upstream, I kicked back, tied on a lure, took a drink and updated my status to “No sweat”. With 45 pounds of thrust, the Minn Kota zipped into the curent at up to five miles-per-hour. With the motor pushing me along and foot pedals controlling the rudder, my hands were free to wave goodbye as I passed the paddlers. The new XL is two inches wider than the Predator 13 so the
large console doesn’t take up too much legroom in the cockpit. The motor acts as a keel to improve stability and straight-line tracking. The XL isn’t just a motorized kayak. Anglers can also choose
a deeper consol with enough room to carry the day’s catch. Or install the smaller, lower console for quick trips and stand-up fishing. To switch out consoles, simply pull a pin and lift the unit out of the boat. After motoring around all day, my arms were tired from reel-
ing in fish, not paddling. Heading back to the launch with the Predator motor wide open, I leaned back in the seat, put my hands behind my head and imagined the distant fishing destinations this motorized kayak could take me.
