n TEATRE-MUSEU DALI: Salvador Dali decided the historical Theatre of Figueres was a suitable location for a museum dedicated to his art, as it housed one of his first exhibitions and is located in his hometown. With over 1,500 artworks presented chronologically from all stages of his career, the museum is considered Dali’s last great work. His tomb is also located here.
n ILLES MEDES: These seven islands off the shore of Costa Brava are popular with snorkelers and divers. Limestone hills create an idyllic backdrop and provide a home to one of the Mediterranean’s largest colonies of yellow-legged gulls.
n CAP DE SANT SEBASTIA: Walkers can stand on the edge of the mainland and look out to sea, taking in the sights. There are lots to explore here — the ruins of a pre-Roman Iberian settlement, a lighthouse and a defensive tower. It’s only a 40-minute walk from the harbor, and adventurous hikers can continue walking for another hour to reach Tamariu.
n EMPURIABRAVA BUTTERFLY PARK: Based in the middle of the Costa Brava, bordering the Aiguamolls de L’Emporda Park and close to the Cap de Creus natural park, these greenhouses boast an exotic collection of butterflies and birds as well as information about their life cycles and history.
