National Museum: Opened in 1868 in Jakarta, the building came to be known as Gedung Gajah (Elephant House) after the bronze elephant statue on display before it. Recently expanded, the museum now houses a vast collection of 109,342 objects covering Indonesia’s prehistory, archeology and ethnography.
