Motorized Miniature Screw Actuators

Physik Instrumente (PI) off ers two new, vacuum-compatible versions of its compact N-470 PiezoMike precision screw-type actuator. Providing a positional resolution of 20 nm and travel ranges between ¼ in. and 1 in., the actuators are available for ambient applications and in high-vacuum (HV, 10-6 Torr) and ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV, 10-9 Torr) confi gurations.

www.physikinstrumente.com Valveless Methanol Metering Pump

The CeramPump® QDX hazardous duty metering pump from Fluid Metering is well suited for methanol metering for wastewater denitrifi cation due to its valveless design. The pump has only one moving part in contact with the process fl uid, a rotating and reciprocating ceramic piston. Similar to conventional piston pumps, the piston’s reciprocation performs the pumping function. The piston simultaneously rotates during the pumping cycle and is synchronized to alternately open and close the inlet and outlet ports of the pump eff ectively functioning as a valve.

The Thermo Scientifi c™ CellInsight™ CX5 High Content Screening (HCS) Platform from Thermo Fisher Scientifi c is a high-content quantitative imaging and analysis platform powered by HCS Studio™ 2.0 Cell Analysis Software. Adding NIR capability to the CellInsight CX5 platform, the system is now enabled with true fi ve-color spectral illumination, allowing access to a greater range of fl uorescent reagents.

ww.thermoscientifi c.com CCD Camera

A new member of the PI-MAX®4 family of scientifi c ICCD cameras, the PI-MAX4:2048f from Princeton Instruments is the world’s fi rst 2k × 2k resolution fi ber optically coupled, intensifi ed camera. The highly

sensitive camera, with Gen II or Gen III fi lmless intensifi ers, off ers high frame rates at 6 MHz/16-bit digitization, as well as a 1-MHz sustained gating repetition rate.

Automated Digital Microscope

The Smartzoom 5 automated digital microscope from ZEISS features a one-of-a-kind operating concept, which makes operation as easy as possible. The system comprises an optical engine (zoom, camera, and illumination), a stand with sample stage, objective lenses, the operating unit, and software. It is equally suited to conducting failure analyses, i.e.,

the close examination of a defective part, as well as routine inspections, during which the same material sample needs to be repeatedly inspected using the same workfl ow.

µPrep™ Half Fraser Broth ISO (+FAC) is the latest addition to the Lab M µPrep range of convenient, ready-to-reconstitute microbiological culture media. Designed for use

in the isolation of Listeria spp. from foodstuff s, this complete primary enrichment broth is supplied sterile in a highly robust bag, which requires only the addition of water. There is no mess and no autoclaving is required, ensuring the speedy preparation of 20 L of complete Half Fraser Broth ISO (+FAC).

www.labm.com Scanning Probe Microscopy Infrared System

Inspire™ from Bruker is the fi rst integrated scanning probe microscopy (SPM) infrared system for 10-nm spatial resolution in chemical and materials property mapping. The system incorporates proprietary PeakForce IR™ mode to enable nanoscale IR refl ection and absorption mapping for a wide range of applications, including the characterization of microphases and their interfaces in polymer blends, plasmons in the 2-D electron gas of graphene, and chemical heterogeneity in complex materials and thin fi lms. The system features sensitivity down to molecular monolayers, even on samples not amenable to standard atomic force microscopy techniques.
