“Having recently returned from overseas fact finding trips, we have seen just how much added value a more progressive people-focused approach can be delivered in terms of health, safety and welfare. With higher productivity and lower incidents compared to the UK, we know that as an institution we can use our findings to help make a difference.


“In fact when it comes to worker safety, we have already introduced our new health, safety and welfare pledge and award this year. As we move forward we will also be encouraging our members and industry partners to share best practice in supporting our overall focus in this area.


“As we see the economy recovering we will be faced with many challenges that will call for both leadership and collaborative working. As an institution we are also gearing up to support both our members and the wider economy and we want to see that matched with Government support – including a ‘champion’ at the very top levels of Government.


“For me the circular economy is a debate in which everyone can have an opinion and play a part. Whether it is ensuring the components of an electronic toothbrush can be reused, finding a new process to extract more value or simply saving lives by improving health and safety, through investment, vision and innovation the opportunities are there for the taking.”
