“I was very impressed with the two stage Crambo system performance, as it consistently turned out the right amount of finished product per hour, maintaining the rate over the long term. In fact the only time the machine shuts down is for refuelling.”
The efficiency of the Komptech machines meant refuelling wasn’t as regular an occurrence as first expected, with the Crambo’s mechanical drive system being extremely efficient. Even under heavy loading it used under 40 litres of diesel per hour. On a high turnover facility efficiency plays a major factor. Uwe explains, “With this many hours of operation every litre counts, so energy costs are very important. But so are noise and pollutant issues, which are kept to a minimum thanks to the use of the latest exhaust scrubbing and sound insulated engine technology within the units.”
Having worked the machines for very long shifts, the key to maintaining performance was the service support received by Holzkontor Preussen GmbH. Julian Lamb from Finning: “This project was a really important test for the new Crambo Direct, particularly when it comes to the UK waste wood recycling market. It shows just how the equipment performs in similar conditions, with a similar type of waste wood product we get in the UK, that is full of contaminates.”
For Uwe being able to use technical support to configure the machines to reduce both everyday and long term wear, the decision to work with Komptech was a positive one: “We felt the best way to cope with this transition phase would be with the Crambo as a machine and Komptech as a partner, and it turned out to be the right decision.”
Having being successfully tested and integrated in to what is widely considered to be technically the most demanding market in this sector, Germany. The Crambo machine’s success is being replicated on UK shores with the highly regarded mobile shredder making its debut with waste and recycling operator SITA.
