FRESH REVENUE STREAMS
Contaminated oversized product has long been an issue within the organic composting sector, proving
troublesome for both district councils and composting sites alike. However, new techniques and equipment are now enabling this oversized material to be processed into usable product, reducing landfill, and opening up new revenue streams for composting plants.
One such business taking advantage of this new approach is Cambridgeshire-based family owned business, AWO Recycling Ltd, which has just invested in a new Finning Komptech Hurrikan S wind-sifter, transforming its recycling process. Operating since 1997 and now licenced to process up to 25,000 tonnes per year, the mobile wind-sifter enables AWO to easily separate plastics from oversized green waste. The machine also features additional magnetic and trap door functions that enable metals and rocks to be cleared so oversized material can be processed into valuable bio-mass.
