KärcherAcademyCleaning Tips: Invest inwater-efficient scrubber driers and claimtax relief

The Enhanced Capital Al- lowance (ECA) water scheme encourages busi- nesses to invest in technolo- gies that save water and improve water quality. The scheme enables your busi- ness to claim100%first- year allowances, ie tax relief on investments in certain technologies and products, reducing the time it takes to pay back your investment. Claiming an ECAmeans

that you can write off (deduct) the whole cost (de- pending on your business’s tax position) of purchasing a qualifying water-efficient technology against your tax- able profits in the year you made the purchase. The ECA scheme isman-

aged by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and HMRC in partnership with Envirowise, and is a key part of the government’s pro- gramme tomanage climate

change, by encouraging businesses to invest in en- ergy-saving equipment. Using resources (like water, energy and naturalmateri- als)more efficiently will bring direct benefits to UK businesses. The ECA water scheme in-

cludes a variety of water effi- cient technologies - such as taps, toilets, monitoring equipment, and industrial cleaning equipment. Kärcher

scrubber-driers qualify under the Industrial Clean- ing Equipment category.

Which scrubber driers are covered?

Defra annually reviews the lists of eligible water tech- nologies and products, known as theWater Technol- ogy List (WTL). At present, all Kärcher walk-behind, step- on and ride-on scrubber dri-

ers over 40 litres capacity are included, as well as certain compact battery-powered models.

Why should I buy amachine on theWTL?

Claiming ECAs for buying water efficient equipment will enable your business to re- duce investment costs and its environmental impact. Your water bills will also be re- duced long-termby installing water-saving equipment. Organisations which are

not eligible for tax relief (in- cluding capital allowances) - such as local authorities, schools and non-profit or- ganisations - can still use theWTL as a source of infor- mation on equipment that may save water and reduce water costs. As well as proven low

water use, Kärcherma- chines feature a host of extra resource-saving features, in-

cluding: DOSE detergent on-off system, which elimi- nates the need for deter- gent to be added to the clean water tank; eco!effi- ciencymode for daily clean- ing, which reduces water and power consumption; and automatic tank filling and cleaning, eliminating wasted water and enabling operators to carry out other tasks.

Howdo I claiman ECA for water efficient products?

1. Buy an eligible Kärcher scrubber drier. 2. Claimyour ECA in the same way that you claim other types of first-year al- lowance - through your in- come tax self assessment or your corporation tax self- assessment return.
