COMPONENTS AND SUBSYSTEMS Connectorised FDN closure
The new Connectorised FDN closure from HellermannTyton has been
designed to offer engineers in access networks the benefits of speed and ease when connecting customers to their fibre optic network.
It is available pre-configured with
LC Duplex of SC Simplex connectors to allow for quick connection or disconnection using pre-configured fibre pigtails or field terminated connectors. The closure can be fitted with a splitter cassette option if required. The high drop port count means that it is particularly suited for use in FTTH access networks. The base configuration of the FDN has 58 round ports and an oval port for loop-through applications. The oval shape ensures that the FDN can be used where space is restricted. The closure cover, which can be fitted with a pressure valve, is available in three different lengths depending on the maximum number of trays required.

Blown fibre fittings
John Guest’s blown fibre fittings have been specially designed for the telecommunications market, for use in local loop, network and customer box applications.
The extensive range of push-fit connectors covers both blown fibre and cable pressurisation systems and includes gas and water block fittings.
The simple-to-use connectors help ensure that installations can be completed quickly and reliably.
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
Engineering and optimising service
Fujikura Europe has launched an ‘engineering and optimisation service’, aimed at helping customers get the most out of their splicing equipment. The company says its specialist team of
38 FIBRE SYSTEMS Issue 5 • Autumn 2014
engineers can assist in the fabrication and development of optical components which may require a critical splice. This includes dissimilar fibre splicing, ball lens, tapering, combiners, thermal expansion of core, and mode field adaptors.
The service has been launched at a time when optimisation is becoming increasingly important to achieve high-quality splicing and compete against the constant introduction of new fibres and the mixing of fibre types.

Fibres/cables can be blown through most connectors in either direction. To make a connection the tube should be simply pushed into the fitting, while the unique John Guest locking system then seals and connects the microduct tube providing a seamless path for unhindered fibre bundle or cable passage. For additional security, i.e. direct buried applications, the ‘Speedfit Secure’ range incorporates an integral collet-locking feature.
