But while the family market is growing, there are also plenty of couples looking for a peaceful, adult-only escape, and Mauritius meets the specifi c needs of both types of customer. “It’s a cliché, but Mauritius really does offer something for everyone,” says Johanna Bromiley, Indian Ocean & Middle East Product Manager for The Turquoise Holiday Company. “The island is small enough for families to explore and feel safe, but it’s also a wonderfully romantic destination, with miles of powdery white sand, and some of the most luxurious, intimate hotels in the world.”


Many resorts like the One&Only Le Saint Géran (oneandonlyresorts.com) cater for all, coupling a romantic spa and restaurants with an exciting kids’ club, but there are some fantastic adults- only havens on the island, including the 5* Baystone Boutique Hotel & Spa


(baystone.mu), which offers a luxury spa, complete with couples’ massage rooms; Paradise Cove Boutique Hotel (paradisecovehotel.com), which reopened last year as adults-only, boasting cosy love nests and ‘He&She’ packages; and the relaxing Kuoni- exclusive Astroea Beach Hotel (kuoni.co.uk), which also switched to adults-only in 2013, and offers a spa, non-motorised watersports centre and accommodation in the main Creole-style building or garden bungalows.


The new wave of luxury villas are also a hit with couples wanting solitude and space. Villas Lencia (villaslencia.com) is a new resort concept near Grand Baie, comprising four waterfront villas with a hotel reception and private beach, and Coco Collection (cococollection. com) is now managing the luxurious Sankhara Villas on the east coast. Maradiva Villa Resort & Spa (maradiva. com) is a luxury all-villa resort, perfect for a romantic getaway, while Indian Ocean villa-rental specialist, Villas de Maître (villasdemaitre.com), has a great collection of properties, including luxury beach apartments at Black River.
