FETA celebrates 30 years of broadening horizons

THE HISTORIC AND glamorous Savoy Hotel in London provided the backdrop for a drinks reception to celebrate FETA’s 30th anniversary.

Attendees enjoyed canapés and wine, while being formally welcomed by the FETA chairman and president of HEVAC, Mike Nankivell. “Sometimes people in our industry criticise how long it takes trade bodies to act. But associations are voluntary organisations,” Mr Nankivell commented. “They proceed on consensus and compromise. “We have no authority over member companies. They have to agree on joint collective effort before we can proceed. That normally takes some time and persuasion rather than executive decision making. “But the sense of combining

forces makes sense. We are now a very diverse, affordable and effective environmental trade organisation. “We are now one of the well-respected pillars of our sector. Our MO is to work and collaborate with our colleagues across the sector both here and in Europe.”

The local member of parliament for Maidenhead, as well as Home Secretary, The Rt Hon Theresa May MP, was guest of honour and congratulated FETA on its achievements.

“Trade bodies such as FETA take time to put together,” she said. “It is when people recognise there is a common cause, and that there is a value in coming together for that common cause – that any individual company or association would find harder

to deal with on their own – that trade associations can prove to be a very valuable part of industrial life in putting forward that common view.

“Over the last three decades FETA has grown in that role, and at the same time has had to broaden its horizons. “This is especially true for

the European dimension where the increasing influence of Brussels on industry-related regulation has been very apparent. And it has done that through active participation with relevant European trade bodies.

“But it has also strengthened ties with trade associations in the United States, broadening its horizons still further.” Guests included representatives from trade associations, sector

organisations and government departments who were thanked for their support to FETA over the preceding decades. The Pinafore Room interior is the oldest in the Savoy Hotel, dating back to 1926, and it was used by Winston Churchill for the exclusive dining club that he founded in 1910.

Photographs of many British prime ministers line the walls and a bust of Winston Churchill takes pride of place, reflecting that it was here in December 1964, that he made his final public appearance. This was the setting for FETA to honour its members and staff, and to reflect on its dedication to the industries that its six associations represent.

Have an interest in refrigerated display cabinets? The Carbon Trust needs you!

Blue Diamond ACR News September 2014

THE CARBON TRUST is carrying out research to examine the continued need to support refrigerated display cabinets under the Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECA) scheme.

RDC equipment has been listed on the ETL since 2003, and the Carbon Trust is now reviewing whether the criteria should be tightened to stimulate further improvements in the efficiency of products on the market.

This review will take into account the impact of increasing EU regulation in areas such as ecodesign, ecolabelling and F-Gases.

The Carbon Trust, in partnership with Jacobs, manages the Energy Technology List (ETL), part of the Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECA) scheme, on behalf of DECC. The ECA scheme provides businesses with enhanced tax relief for equipment purchases that meet published energy- saving criteria.

The ETL lists products that have been demonstrated to meet the published criteria, and are therefore eligible for this tax break.

Manufacturers, distributors, consultants or end-users who would like to contribute to the study are asked to contact the ETL team at the Carbon Trust on 0300 330 0657 or by email at ECAquestions@carbontrust.co.uk.
